Pennies from Heaven

Got change? Want to help someone with an emergency? We keep a giant jar marked “Pennies from Heaven” in the church office for your change. The proceeds go to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, which is used to help people (members and non-members alike) who have emergencies. Help from this fund remains anonymous; no one except Anita knows who receives help. If you or someone you know has a financial emergency, please contact Pastor Anita.

Session Notes

The Session of First Presbyterian Church of Plainsboro met on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, and Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 7:30 PM in the Wicoff Library. Here are some other highlights of the meeting:

  • Lisa Minich was appointed to finish Jeff Kuper’s 2011 term as Clerk of Session and Secretary of Trustees once he resigns. Jeff was thanked for his service with the best wishes of the session as he relocates to South Dakota.

  • The play yard will have new mulch put in. A motion to pay seminary students to remove the old mulch was approved.

  • The treasurer reported that substantial budgeted mission funds have yet to be allocated, with the result that the general fund balance is deceptively high.

  • A motion to pay a large utility balance as an extraordinary expense from the Endowment Fund was approved. The charge arose due to a faulty meter during the period from March 2008July 2009.

  • A special offering for the Hudson’s mission trip to Ecuador was approved.

  • Expenditures from the Building and Capital Improvement Fund were approved to: 1) remove dead branches from trees on church property, and 2) replace the failing commercial refrigerator in the kitchen.

  • The Mission and Outreach Committee reported that $640 was raised for Vineyard Vissions at Founder’s Day.

Two special session meetings will be held on Sunday, June 5. The first will meet at 9:30 AM for the reception of the confirmation class. The second special session will meet at 12:30 PM. The next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at 7:30 PM. Church members are welcome to attend. Contact Pastor Anita for details.
